Portable Hole

This page is still in progress.

Infusion — see Artifice for the rules and the Infusion List for the full list.

This infusion is embedded with a pellet of clay. When thrown against an earthen surface, it causes a 500 square foot area of earth to collapse into a 10’ deep chasm at the point of impact. The chasm can be created underfoot of creatures if desired. Each creature in the area of effect must make a Blast saving throw. If the save succeeds, the creature leaps to the nearest safe point. If the save fails, the creature falls prone into the chasm, suffering 1d6 mundane bludgeoning damage if not otherwise protected (e.g. by flight or levitation). Unattended objects automatically fall into the chasm. Portable hole can only affect volumes of soil, sand, silt, clay, or uncut, unworked rock. It does not function on worked stone, wood, cement, concrete, metal, or magical material.

The chasm created by this infusion can be re-filled manually. Otherwise, the chasm lasts until dispelled or until the concoctor dies or decides to stop sustaining it at the start of his turn. When the infusion ends, if the chasm has not been filled manually, the earth bubbles upward violently and reforms. Each creature within the chasm must make a Blast saving throw. If the save succeeds, the creature is safely deposited on the surface. If the save fails, the creature suffers 1d6 extraordinary seismic damage from the roiling tremor before being deposited on the surface and knocked prone.
