Splashing Lubricant

This page is still in progress.

Infusion — see Artifice for the rules and the Infusion List for the full list.

This infusion is embedded with a pellet of animal fat. When thrown against a creature or surface (or applied with a touch), it can coat one or more objects, a 10’ x 10’ surface of floor, or a willing creature with a slippery magical fluid.

Used on objects, the affected objects become slippery and hard to hold. The infusion can affect 20 arrows or similarly-sized items, 2 tiny objects, or 1 small/medium/large object. Creatures attempting to grab an affected object must succeed on an attack throw against AC 10. If the attack misses, the creature fails to grasp the object. If a creature is holding the object at the end of that creature’s initiative, they must save versus Paralysis or else the object slips out of their hand into a random space within 5’. A creature might successfully grab the object with its attack only to drop it at the end of their initiative.

If the target is an area of floor, any creature starting its initiative in, or moving into, the affected area must make a Paralysis saving throw. If the creature has Acrobatics as a class feature or proficiency, they gain a +2 bonus on the saving throw. If it does not have such an ability, it suffers a -4 penalty if wearing light armor, -6 if wearing medium armor, or -8 if wearing heavy armor (natural armor and very light armor do not impose penalties). If the save fails, the creature immediately falls prone. If the save succeeds, the creature can act without falling that round. Unlike most wall spells, splashing lubricant can be created in areas where creatures are present.

If the target is a willing creature, that creature cannot be grabbed, restrained, wrestled, or otherwise subject to any form of bondage such as ropes, chains, or cuffs, magical or otherwise. Simply put, nothing can get a handle on them.
