Leaping Flame

Warcraft technique — see Magic and Spells for the rules and the Technique Index for the full list.

Apprentice — By invoking this technique, the warlord makes his step as light as the candle’s flame. His movement rate is doubled and normal movement will not cause him to become fatigued. Additionally, he can bolt up sheer surfaces at his normal movement rate, provided he ends his movement on solid ground. However, his easy movements come with a price in stability. His first attack throw while under its effect is at a -1 penalty, his second at -2, and so on to a maximum penalty of -5. If he spends a full round concentrating, he can recover his poise and reset the penalty to -1.

Initiate — As apprentice, and the warlord may also walk on water at his normal rate.

Journeyman — As initiate, and the warlord can now rise vertically as if on jets of warm air at a rate of 20’ each round, as though levitating.

Master — As journeyman, but the climbing, water walking and levitation give way to flight at a combat speed of 120’ per round (reduced by his encumbrance as usual), and the duration increases to 3 turns. He remains unstable while aloft.

Grand Master — As master, but the warlord’s flight steadies. He is no longer unstable, and may fight, cast and act aloft as though standing on firm ground.
