Session 17 – Who’s the Best Boy?

Campaign I, session 17. Previous: Session 16. Next: Session 18.

The party rests overnight, losing a couple of kobolds (the surviving followers seem unfazed by their losses). Abiyir is stung by his transformation, but accepts it as the price of righteousness (passing his loyalty check to remain with Singil). Travain’s newly unemployed henches are re-hired by other PCs (Alwyn hires Hugo, and Singil hires Athelia).

The party continues towards Vedycaer, planning to stop at Fort Talon. The question arises as to how they will treat their captives. Calgronen (the leader), begins to hint that he will press charges, especially against the kobolds, if he is brought into civilization, as well as hinting that disposing of him now may create a diplomatic incident. Eventually the party agrees to release them, and allow them to keep their gear, if they will agree to a dice-off with Casino for their coins and gems. Calgronen readily accepts, loses the cash, and staggers off to rejoin with those who fled.

The party checks in only briefly at Fort Talon, purchasing a few minor healing spells, before pressing on to Vedycaer. Upon their arrival, Damonos notifies them that Pash’s family has hired an investigator to look into Vason’s death; they will want to interview the party about their recollections. While they wait, Pash plans a celebration of the Heart’s destruction / memorial for Travain. Singil pays for a restoration of her crushed legs – the restoration succeeds, though she needs a couple of weeks to recover, and she begins to feel a… twitch… in her spear-arm. [From now on, when Singil rolls a natural 1 on attacks, she will hit an adjacent ally instead of an enemy]. Casino spends some time gambling in the Festival district, and Alwyn decides to re-home a stray cat.

Pash also spends some time working with Lorelea to secure the best deals on merchandise for their steady trade route; unfortunately one of the merchants they are attempting to deal with is assassinated on the streets! Once more Pash is brought in for questioning, by the same Captain Gundus that interviewed her last time. Gundus seems to believe this merchant was involved in some kind of smuggling activity gone wrong. There being no particular evidence of Pash’s involvement, she is free for now.

Alwyn disappears for a bit to attempt a solo spying hijinks in hopes of discovering some blackmail material on Lucius Furlan. Casino and a few of the other henches learn some new spells as well.

During all this, a dwarven attorney (Metri, Dwarven Rhetor hench) arrives with a large talking canine (Dreyfuss, PC Sakkalin Watch-hound) to interview Pash about their interactions with “Vason” during their last stay in town. Pash is so excited to meet a talking dog as to be nearly-useless (barely improving after a Rhetorical hypnotism effect compels her to actually answer some questions). Dreyfuss interviews the company one by one, reviews evidence previously gathered, and consults his “mind palace”, eventually concluding that the answers he seeks lie in the sewers, somewhere between the public latrine of the Old District and the Tower of Knowledge.
