Session 3 – Oil and Alarm Bells

Campaign II, session 3. Previous: Session 2. Next: Session 4.

  • A week of downtime selling, recruiting, etc. Broker will sell half the pigment and the statues for the party (10% fee). No other downtime activities.

  • New attendant of Talavosh, assassin.

  • On the trek back to the dungeon, 2 encounters: peasants on their way to town with carts of produce, then a herd of cattle.

  • Lord Espada rode a cow. Vierath noticed that the cattle were branded and presumably owned. To convince Espada to stop jerking around, he said they were owned by Giants.

  • The party first went back to the kobold area and discovered that the doors were “stuck” – possibly barricaded or spiked from the other side.

  • They decided not to force the issue here, assuming the kobolds were prepared for something, so they went back towards the dry fountain, picked a door, and opened it.

  • On the next door, Espada prepped a flask of military oil. As the party forced it open, they triggered an alarm bell and saw a hall full of caltrops and a barricade at the other end. Some goblins started shooting arrows at them, Espada threw the oil. Many goblins died. A few fled.

  • The room beyond had a bunch of targets on the wall, and around the corner more barricades with another patrol of goblins (plus the fleeing group). Again with the oil, this time a miss but still splashed several goblins. Espada falls, looking as if he’d taken an arrow to the eye, but actually it grazed the side of his face and got stuck in his helmet. The attendant helped him up; the party slaughtered all the goblins including those that tried to surrender. One goblin had a silver flask (of stagnant water).

  • After the fight, the party hears a voice from a nearby room, “help guys, I’m in here, I’m in here!”

  • It’s not one of the Hucrele twins (sad), it’s Snorri Gnosebiter! He’s really excited to be set free to help fight evil! Also in the room are a bunch of kobolds; they try to avoid eye contact with the adventurers.

  • A bit more exploration, found some elf pudding and lamp oil. A room with hazy smoke from a bunch of torches.

  • Party backs off to another route and finds another goblin barracks. This time a smaller group, but they manage to put Espada down again. This time, it’s a more notable scar on his face, and he’ll need magical healing and a day of bed rest to recover.

  • The party retreats back to the ledge at the entrance to the ravine and camps for an uneventful night.
