Garalen

Attendant Garalen runs the hospital at Teryk — housed in the fort’s shrine to Numilvara — where he and his staff care for sick and injured soldiers and civilians alike. He is fifty and beginning to show it — careworn face, thinning white hair — and conceals his frailty beneath the voluminous white mantle and hat of his order. He is an attendant of Talavosh, dedicated to serving in his proper place in the Sairan hierarchy.

His day

Prayers in the shrine courtyard at dawn, then the bathhouse, then a morning of rounds through the wards. Afternoons go to errands, visitors, or the courtyard flowers. He closes with prayers at dusk. Every seventh night he fasts from dusk to dawn before the ever-burning torch in the courtyard, and feasts through most of the following day.

What he offers

  • Care and lodging for the injured. The courtyard is holy ground, and those who rest there and visit it daily mend faster than they should.
  • Healing herbs, potions, and similar goods from the hospital storerooms.
  • Divine spellcasting — freely to those he counts as friends, at standard rates to everyone else.
  • He keeps scrolls as well, and will use them on a party’s behalf if their cost is donated to the hospital in exchange.
