Dwarf
The Dwarves are a folk of the deep places, living and laboring in the close-walled vaults they hew from the stone. Beyond those vaults run labyrinthine caverns and winding tunnels, stretching hundreds — perhaps thousands — of miles beneath the earth, of which even the most exhaustive dwarven maps have charted only a fraction.
Nothing is so revered among dwarves as craftsmanship. A dwarf’s work is his life, and the spirits of dwarven artisans are believed to live on forever in their masterpieces. Dwarven society is built around the clan and its vault, defended without end against the hordes that threaten it; now and again a young dwarf is sent abroad on a warrior’s pilgrimage, and the few who return bring gold and glory enough to found new vaults and rise to lordship. Dwarves do not take naturally to arcane magic — the less so since the Year of Trembling — and those who dare it pay a real price. In Sair, a devout dwarf typically follows a Sovereign tradition, such as that of Ontaar or Dolorah.
