Gnome
The Gnomes are a small and cunning people, inclined by nature toward the philosophical, the artistic, and the ingenious. Their lost homeland was Zilargo, whose Triumvirate fell during the Year of Trembling; today much of gnomekind makes its home in Sair, carrying the fragments of a greater age with them.
Before the cataclysm, the gnomes of Zilargo were famed for binding elementals into magical wonders — the greatest of them airships said to sail the very skies. Such marvels are lost to the present age, though a guild of gnomish binders in Sair still keeps some fraction of that knowledge alive. Gnomes long kept peace with their neighbors through cunning diplomacy and mutual trade, falling back on force only at need — and on the principle that a small, precise strike can topple the largest foe. Two names echo through their history: the Dragon House of Sivis, renowned for its notaries and orators, scriveners and attorneys, and said to have once borne the Mark of Scribing; and The Trust, the half-mythic secret order that watched over gnomekind as a single nation, still spoken of in hushed tones.
