The district of the three great bridges that span the Darkwater, joining the west bank to the old heart of Vedycaer. To the east it abuts the Old District; over all of it rises the shining dome of the Citadel of Heaven. See Vedycaer Districts for the other seven.
The three bridges
- The Northern and Southern Bridges were thrown up by Sair in the years after the conquest — broad, straight, and built to move legions.
- Between them stands Maril’s Bridge, older than either: a legacy of Caernath, named for the heroic knight Maril who fell defending it, and the one span the Sairans did not raise themselves.
The Citadel of Heaven
The oldest Sairan structure in the city, and its grandest — a vast domed temple to Numilvara, raised in thanks for the victory that won Vedycaer for the Empire. Beneath its floor run the catacombs, where the ashes of saints and of the city’s great civil, military, and religious dead are interred. Its clergy and lay staff are numerous enough to fill the neighborhood blocks around it.
The Docks
The city’s main river port, where as many as sixty barges and boats crowd the piers and jetties. If cargo comes to Vedycaer by water, this is very likely where it comes ashore.
Gates
- Heaven’s Gate — the gate through the Old Walls beside the Citadel, open sunup to sundown.
- River Gate South — where the district meets the river at its southern end.
