Shifter Moonspeaker
Advanced Shifter class — see Classes for the full list.
This page is still in progress.
Moonspeakers are the shifters who read the thirteen moons of Eberron for meaning, binding their fate to whichever moon they study in a given season of their life. Where a warclaw leads and a nightstalker kills, a moonspeaker watches the sky and carries back what it tells them — omens, boons, and sometimes warnings the rest of the warband would rather not hear.

Combat Characteristics
Moonspeakers are not bred for the front line, but a shifter’s instincts still serve them well when the omens turn to violence.
Combat Proficiencies: Moonspeakers have weapon proficiency with all missile weapons and with all tiny, small, and medium melee weapons. They have armor proficiency with light and very light armor. They have fighting style proficiency with the weapon and shield and two-handed weapon styles, but not with the dual weapon style.
Combat Progression: Moonspeakers advance in attack throws and saving throws as clerics, by two points every four levels. They can cleave after felling a foe a maximum of once per round per every two class levels (rounded down).
Starting Class Powers
Knowledge (astrology): The moonspeaker has an innate command of the movements and meanings of the thirteen moons. (This class power is equivalent to one rank of the Knowledge proficiency, restricted to astrology.)
Totem Animal: The moonspeaker gains a totem animal as a companion, physically representing his bond to the moon he currently studies. See Totem Animals for the full rules on totem animals.
Lunar Boon I: The moonspeaker chooses one of Eberron’s thirteen moons to study and receives that moon’s minor boon. He may not select the same moon a second time over the course of his career. See Moonspeaker Boons for the full list of moons and their boons.
Studious Divine Spellcasting: By studying the phases and portents of the moons, moonspeakers can cast divine spells. Unlike clerics, who receive their spells from prayer, moonspeakers receive their spells from study. Moonspeakers follow the same rules for learning and casting spells as mages (i.e., they have a base number of spells in their repertoire equal to the number shown on the Shifter Moonspeaker Spell Progression table plus their INT bonus). They record their repertoires of spells in spell books and can learn new spells from scribing scrolls, intense observation of the truly faithful, or studying other divine spell books. They select their spells from the divine spell list, rather than the arcane spell list, however, and cannot learn or cast spells found in arcane spell books. See Spells for more information.
Additional Class Powers
Lunar Boon II (2nd): The moonspeaker chooses another moon to study and receives its minor boon.
Lunar Boon III (3rd): The moonspeaker chooses another moon to study and receives its minor boon.
Lunar Boon IV (4th): The moonspeaker chooses another moon to study and receives its minor boon.
Lunar Boon V (5th): The moonspeaker chooses another moon to study and receives its major boon.
Lunar Boon VI (6th): The moonspeaker chooses another moon to study and receives its major boon.
Lunar Boon VII and VIII (7th): The moonspeaker chooses two more moons to study, receiving each one’s major boon.
Lunar Boon IX (8th): The moonspeaker chooses another moon to study and receives its major boon.
Moonspire (9th): By acquiring a moonspire worth at least 15,000gp, the moonspeaker can attract followers to his service. Provided the moonspeaker has kept to his code of behavior, he can build a moonspire at half price due to the assistance of his patron moons. 5d6 x 10 0th level troops and 1d6 moonspeakers of 1st level arrive to serve him within 1d3 months of him acquiring the moonspire. If the moonspeaker has already acquired a moonspire, the followers arrive to serve him within 1d3 months of him reaching 9th level. The followers are fanatically brave and completely loyal (loyalty +4 and morale +4). Despite their loyalty, the followers must be paid a fair wage, or they might eventually leave his service. Additional rules for moonspires are detailed in Campaigns.
Lunar Boon X (9th): The moonspeaker chooses another moon to study and receives its supreme boon.
Lunar Boon XI (10th): The moonspeaker chooses another moon to study and receives its supreme boon.
Lunar Boon XII (11th): The moonspeaker chooses another moon to study and receives its supreme boon.
Lunar Boon XIII (12th): The moonspeaker chooses the last remaining moon to study and receives its supreme boon.
Racial Traits
Shifter Trait: The moonspeaker selects a shifter trait, gaining the power to shift into it and the trait’s associated trait skill. See Shifter Traits for the full list of traits, trait skills, and shifting rules.
Shifter Resilience: The moonspeaker must sometimes rely on his shifter resilience to survive. When the character is required to consult the Mortal Wounds table, the player can roll twice and choose the preferred result to apply. He also subtracts his class level from the number of days of bed rest required to recover.
Code of Behavior
Missing code of behavior
As a divine caster, the moonspeaker should uphold strictures to retain his spells and powers (see Cleric > Code of Behavior for the model), but none has been written for this class yet.
Class Proficiencies
Proficiency Progression: At 1st level, moonspeakers gain one class proficiency from their class proficiency list and one general proficiency from the general proficiency list. They select an additional class proficiency at 4th, 8th, and 12th level. They select an additional general proficiency at 5th and 9th level.
