Axios Ilarion

Captain Axios Ilarion commands what troops remain at Teryk. He is thirty-three, fifteen years in service, stoutly built, with dark olive skin and curly black hair — gruff, harsh, and a patriotic and devout Sairan to the bone. He has served under Count Roland Varnel for over a decade and obeys him without question.
Ilarion has survived more than one battle through clerical intervention, and it left him with a deep reverence for the clergy; his salty manner dissolves into sheepish awe in a priest’s presence.
He drills the garrison at the parade ground from mid-morning to early afternoon, cleans up at the bathhouse, and usually takes the evening at the Traveler’s Inn. He is quartered in the one occupied infantry barracks block.
What he tells adventurers
He urges every company heading out to seek the blessing of the gods first. He has watched a great many mercenaries and expeditionaries sally forth over the years, and most did not come back — the difference, in his experience, comes down to the will of the gods.
He is also the officer who calls for volunteers at the parade ground, on the Count’s written authorization.
