Atur is a free city-state of old Caernath, on the north shore of the Scion’s Sea beside the Lake of Sorrows, between the Nightwood and the Ashen Spires. It declared its independence when Corth could no longer protect the Caernathi lands, and it has kept that independence since.
The city
Atur never sees the sun. It lies in the shadow of the Ashen Spires, on the shore of the Lake of Sorrows, which never sees the sun either. Its streets are lit by skeletons with candles on their skulls, and the dead do the city’s work. Each district has its own colors; the Crimson Monastery, the religious district, is named for its own.
Powers
Atur was once ruled by a line of dukes, but the last of them died centuries ago. The city is said to be governed now by a council of undead that has not changed in centuries.
Faith
The Seekers of Divinity are at their strongest in Atur. They hold the heretical belief that all gods are false except the “Divinity Within”. Many of Atur’s Khoravar are Seekers.
Trade and neighbors
Atur is a port on the Scion’s Sea, trading regularly (if dangerously) with Sair, and it draws lumber from the Shadowmount Forest. Its forces have clashed with those of the Emerald Queen. Fenrath’s Fire Brigade saw captured Lhazaaran raiders sent to Atur “for their fates to be decided later” (Session 14 - Hammer Time).
