The Mercenary Guild is a consortium of sellswords licensed by the Empire to provide private military service across the Borderlands — and, for an adventuring company working out of Vedycaer, the first place to look for paying work. Unlike the tame craft guilds, it is genuinely independent, and it functions mostly as a mutual-aid society: dues buy a member a bunk, a death-and-disability benefit, and access to the contract board. Anyone able-bodied can join.

Its seat is the Mercenary Guildhouse, a white limestone hall at the southern edge of the Thieves’ Quarter, raised over what was once a temple to Dolorah, the Sovereign of Sun and Sacrifice — a bronze statue of an elfblooded knight still stands in the training hall.

The contract board

The board in the Guildhouse is where the city’s dangerous work is posted, from expedition scouting to bounties on the beasts of the frontier. The current notices — the Tower of Knowledge’s call for expeditionaries, the steppe-raider trouble at Vom, the Brom bounty, and the Imperial Vanguard’s recruiting — are listed on the Old District page.

The Guildmaster

Guildmaster Brenius D’Neith, a former Imperial officer, runs the guild and is recruiting hard — he is convinced the years ahead will be good ones for men who fight for pay, and wants the rolls full when the work comes.
