The scholars’ quarter of Vedycaer, running along the west bank of the Darkwater between the Old Walls and the Imperial Walls. Alchemists, mages, sages, and scholars of every stripe keep their homes and workrooms here, in the shadow of the tower that gives the district its name. See Vedycaer Districts for the other seven.
The Tower of Knowledge
The tallest structure in the city and its great institution of arcane learning — many schools and traditions gathered under one roof, crowned by a stellar observatory, with libraries, laboratories, and living quarters below. To a traveler carrying strange loot or stranger questions, it is the place to go: its scholars will identify magic items, decipher scrolls, undertake spell research, and sell what they know to those who can pay for it.
The Tower is led by its Regent, Oureous Ambador, who takes a keen interest in what lies beyond the frontier. He keeps a standing call for bold expeditionaries to scout the Borderlands and the wastes past them, and pays well for credible word of threats and invasion routes — the notice turns up on the Mercenary Guild’s board.
The Public Baths
Grand even by the standard of the Tower that overshadows them, and a center of the district’s social life — a place where scholars argue philosophy in the steam as readily as in any lecture hall.
River Gate North
The great water-gate where the Darkwater enters the city on this side. Its chains are raised at night to bar the waterway to any boat with no honest business on it after dark.
