The greenest and quietest quarter of Vedycaer, built around Star Lake in a bend of the Old Walls. The city’s wealthiest families keep their villas along the shore here, well away from the crowds of the Old District across Capital Street. 71. Star Lake
The still, spring-fed lake that gives the district its name and its calm — a mirror of clear water within the city walls, ringed by the gardens and boat-landings of the great houses. Its shores are the most sought-after address in Vedycaer, and a patrician’s standing can be read in how near the water his villa sits.
The lakeshore villas
The two greatest patrician houses of the city face each other across the lake, and their rivalry is a staple of drawing-room gossip: both hold seats on the Municipal Council, at the head of opposing factions.
72. House Drakomir Villa
Seat of House Drakomir, an ambitious military house whose sons hold high command in the city — among them Tribune Ormethas Drakomir of the City Watch.
73. House Ambador Villa
Seat of House Ambador, an old house of scholars and statesmen; its members include the Regent of the Tower of Knowledge, Oureous Ambador.
74. The Imperial Charter Inn
The finest lodging in Vedycaer, and priced for it — the place for blue-blooded travelers with the coin to match. Where the Silk Pony offers vice, the Charter offers luxury: the best of food, wine, music, and company, and discretion for guests who prize it.
The southern tenements
At the district’s southern tip, away from the water, stands a crowded row of tenements housing the servants and retainers who keep the great villas running. Rumor holds that a colony of vagrants and lepers has taken up in the Undercity beneath them — and that among them lives a raving hermit who covers the walls with drawings of some vast city in the deep. Few go down to look.
